Client Context
Smurfit Westrock’s Paper & Packaging Solutions sample system currently experiences long cycle times, process inconsistency, and increasing costs. Containerboard sample processing time can take up to 31 days, and paperboard sample costs are increasing 32% YoY. There is no centralized data connecting sample orders to product sales, and inconsistent sample packaging has created variability in the customer experience.
Project Objective
The objective of the project was to streamline data tracking and sales conversion, reduce cycle time from 11 days to 4 days, and improve inventory and sample packaging consistency through automation, centralized data, and standardized processes. For Paperboard, the objective was to improve cost efficiency and inventory management through standardization, inventory planning, and third-party relationship improvements, resulting in measurable cost savings.
Design Strategy
The project followed a three-step approach consisting of process mapping and needs assessment, system design and automated workflow development, and testing, optimization, and process documentation. These phases were supported using Power Apps for the automated intake form and dashboard, SharePoint as the centralized data sources, and Excel for sample-to-sales tracking, inventory planning, and cost analysis.
